Short answer

Yes, monday.com can read your account data by design (with controls). It says customer data is "generally not accessed" but allows access case by case. BYOK (Enterprise Guardian add-on) adds key control, not zero-knowledge.

55 / 100 overall

Scored configuration: monday.com Enterprise with the Guardian add-on (Tenant-Level Encryption + Bring Your Own Key).

Default (no Guardian): one annually rotated vendor key encrypts all customer data; the report estimates Overall ~52.

Report confidence: Medium. BYOK's technical scope isn't documented in the sources we read.

Higher = more customer control / less inherent vendor read access for the scored configuration. A strong SOC 2 doesn't mean the vendor can't read your data.

FAQ: monday.com data access, AI training, GDPR and residency

Can monday.com read your data?

Yes, monday.com can read your account data by design (with controls). It says customer data is "generally not accessed" but allows access case by case. BYOK (Enterprise Guardian add-on) adds key control, not zero-knowledge. VendorScore rates monday.com 55/100 overall from public documentation (evidence dated 2026-10-07). Scored configuration: monday.com Enterprise with the Guardian add-on (Tenant-Level Encryption + Bring Your Own Key).

Is monday.com data encrypted? Does monday.com support BYOK?

monday.com encrypts data at rest with AES-256 and in transit with TLS 1.3 (at minimum TLS 1.2). By default, "An annually rotated customer master key (CMK) is currently used to encrypt all customer data submitted to the monday.com service." The Enterprise-only Guardian add-on adds Tenant-Level Encryption, giving each account "its own exclusive encryption key", and BYOK, which lets you "manage the entire key lifecycle, grant or revoke access as needed". Public docs don't state BYOK's key provider, data scope or what revocation does. None of this is E2EE.

Can monday.com employees see my boards?

Sometimes. monday.com's white paper says it treats customer data as a "black box", meaning "customer data is generally not accessed for the performance of the monday.com service", but "Access to customer data by monday.com is limited in accordance with our Terms of Service or respective agreement with the customer, on a case-by-case basis." Server access goes through ZTNA/VPN with MFA and is fully audited. No customer-approval mechanism is documented.

Does monday AI train on my data?

No, per monday.com's white paper: "We do not use your input or output to train machine-learning models and we do not authorize others either." Separately, monday.com's privacy policy lists AI-assisted virtual agents with training purposes for support interactions, which is a different context from your board data.

Is monday.com GDPR compliant? Where is the monday.com DPA?

VendorScore doesn't certify compliance; monday.com publishes a DPA at https://monday.com/l/privacy/dpa/. The DPA gives you 7 days to object after a new-subprocessor notice and allows audits on 14 days' notice, at most once every 12 months.

Who are monday.com's subprocessors, and which see my board data?

monday.com's list (last updated June 24, 2026) includes AWS, Google Cloud, Redis, Cloudflare (full account data), Coralogix ("Applicative logs which may contain full account data"), Cloudinary (file previews), Sentry and Datadog (data that "may contain boards data"), EON.io (database backup), Nebius ("Data embedding service") and Microsoft Azure. The AI Work Platform adds AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft, Snowflake, OpenAI, Anthropic, LangChain, Tavily, Exa, dbt Labs and Recall.ai. The list is published at https://monday.com/l/privacy/subprocessors/.

Can I keep monday.com data in the EU (data residency)?

Partly. monday.com offers US, EU and APAC data regions on AWS, but "Only Enterprise customers on the EU Data Region have their Customer Data solely hosted within the EU Data Region, including data stored by sub-processors." Standard and Pro accounts in the EU region may also be processed in the US, and monday.com-controlled data (credentials, profiles, usage analytics) stays in the US.
